Selma Lagerlöf

Selma Ottilia Lovisa Lagerlöf (1858–1940) was a celebrated Swedish author and the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded in 1909. She gained fame with her debut novel Gösta Berling’s Saga and became the first woman to be elected to the Swedish Academy in 1914. Her works, rich with imagination and rooted in folklore, established her as one of Sweden’s most influential writers. She is honored on the Swedish 20 Kronor banknote.
